On the day of christmas day, the day of jesus christ’s birth. A mother and her two greatest children. One named Lucy, and the other named Gale. These two children were about to celebrate another amazing Christmas with their greatest mother. Which was at the house baking some pie and cookies for them to sit down and celebrate together.
Although it was cold outside, Lucy and Gale didn’t mind such cold temperatures. Playing outside in the woods with different toys that they got earlier that day. The brother and sister were laughing and running together, trying to tag the other. Though, the kids might be getting too deep into the woods. As the mother walked outside, calling out to them. She was incapable of getting a response from her own two kids. The mother starts to get worried, running out from the house, calling the two kids names for a response. No answer.
Meanwhile, deep in the forest of the brother and sister. They continue to run deeper into the forest. The brother tackles the sister, both continuing to laugh from the fun they were having. The sister stops and realizes something is wrong. They might be too far in the forest to even know the way back to their house. The brother, being the big brother that he is, told her to stop worrying as he knew the way back. He decides to lead her back to the house.
However, the big brother just got them even more lost. They soon disappeared into the forest completely, never to be heard again. The mother alone started to grow sad and lonely, but also started to grow in anger. She was no longer herself. She tried to find where the kids had gone, but she could never find the traces of them.
Many days have gone by, with still no sign of the daughter and son of the mother. When a month has gone by, the brother and sister have found a strange house that looks very similar to them. The brother sees this and says, “See? I told you I could find it!”
The sister looks at him and shakes her head. “It looks similar yes, but something is wrong with it.”
“Whatever do you mean Lucy? I see nothing wrong with it.” Said Gale.
The two ran toward the house, knocking on the door. No response. Lucy knocked louder with a large thud. “Mom! We are home!” They listened for a response. Nothing was heard.
Gale tries to open the door, which succeeds. The door was unlocked, he opened it carefully. Looking inside for anybody seeming to be inside. The house was very quiet and with still no sign of their previous mother. Gale made Lucy remain behind her for big brother protection. Lucy closed the door behind them, then followed Gale. Soon, Gale and Lucy notice the house being even more similar. They remembered almost every single thing, with every room being the same.
The beds were unmoved, the walls remained to have the Christmas decorations from Christmas day, to even the lovely Christmas tree. One thing was missing however, there was still no sign of the missing mother.
“Gale, did our mother leave us?” Gale refuses to respond to that question, knowing that their mother will never do so. Continuing to search the house, they find the strangely baked cookies and pie on the counter. Lucy remembers when they got lost in the woods, their mother was baking cookies and pie for them.
“If our mother did leave us, then why would she leave these cookies and pie here?” Lucy checked them, but saw that they were as hard as a rock. Incapable of being eaten.
Footsteps were heard behind the both of them. Lucy and Gale grew frightened but also relieved. They turned around to see who was behind them. To see a woman who grew a beard, with dimples, and long gray hair. She was ugly,
“You're not our mother!” Lucy cried out. The ugly looking woman laughed very scaringly at them both. They both started to grow frightened and scared of her. The lady walks over to the tray of cookies and the pie that has been there for a while.
“No, but I might cook just like her.” She throws the cookies and pie away, then looks up to the children. “You came just in time for my new supper!” The kids remember their mother's words one time. Don’t talk to strangers. She said in their minds.
“I think we should leave.” Gale says, but the creepy mother stops them.
“No. Don’t leave, you both look tired and hungry. Let me make you both something to eat, and I will set you up in the rooms upstairs. You can leave by then.”
However, Gale is starting to dislike where this is going. He takes a step back then runs to the front door. Lucy watches as he runs to the door, but the door is locked.
“Where do you think you're going?” The creepy woman says. Lucy standing and staring at the brother.
“Gale, we’ve been out there for a few days. I think we should at least eat something.”
Gale refuses. “No Lucy. You know what our mother said about strangers.”
Lucy nods. “I know, but we haven’t eaten in a few days. Shouldn’t we at least eat something?”
Gale looks up to the creepy woman. “Once we eat. We are leaving.”
The creepy woman nods, “Of course! Sit down at the table while I serve something up.” She says, going back into the kitchen and getting ready to cook. Gale doesn’t trust her.
As they both sat down at the table, Lucy and Gale both looked around the dining room. Seeing the similarities of the room and what it used to look like before it started to get old and rusty. Minutes pass, the woman returns with a plate of delicious cookies. Gale, still not trusting the woman, doesn’t take a serving. Lucy however does, ready to eat the cookies.
“Eat you little one. You’ll starve!” Gale looks at her before taking a cookie. Then takes a bite of it. Although, a splash of chocolate gets onto his clothes. The woman is shocked by this. “Oh no! You’ve made a mess of your clothes! Go get a pair of clean ones from upstairs.” Gale, still not trusting the woman shakes his head. “No thank you, It is fine.”
The woman starts to insist. “Your mother wouldn’t like dirty clothes now would she?” Gale thought about this, but then got up and headed upstairs for a new pair of clothes. He found the room he was looking for, and got out some clothing. Although, they were oddly similar as well. Almost like…
Lucy was heard downstairs screaming. Gale lost his train of thought, and ran downstairs. Not changing his clothes. “Lucy?!” He cried, worried about his own little sister. When he got to the dining room, another scream was heard in the kitchen. Gale ran into the kitchen, and saw that the woman was trying to stuff her into the oven.
Gale was furious, and ran over to the woman and got Lucy out of the oven. He succeeded, but he then shoved the creepy woman into the oven. He closed the door of the oven then grabbed Lucy’s arm. Running out of the house together.
“You were right Gale as well as our mom. Don’t trust strangers.” They pant from the running, trying to think of a new direction to go.
“It’s alright Lucy.” Gale took out a smashed cookie and held it sadly in his hands. “I just wish we could see our mother again.” Gale said again.
“I think this time, we should search for her together.” Lucy responds. Gale lays his hand onto Lucy’s palm. Both holding each other's hands.
They both smiled at each other, until a new type of woman came out of the house. This time, it looks like their mother. Lucy and Gale stare over their shoulders. Scared if the bad woman was just pretending. However, she wasn’t.
“Gale! Lucy! Is that you?!” Gale and Lucy look at each other first before running over to their lost mother. “There you are!”
They both embrace into a hug when they reach their lost mother. “Mom? Were you the bad woman?”
The mother looked into both of their eyes. “Yes, but it was for a good reason. Never trust strangers, even if they are in the same looking house.”
“Why were you trying to cook me then?” Lucy asks.
“I wasn’t going to my dear. I promise.” She hugs them both closely and tightly. “Now, who wants pie?” She asks.
“Me!” Lucy and Gale both say at the same time.
[The end]
