I just moved into an apartment. After many years of living with my parents, I was glad to be on my own now. The apartment wasn’t too fancy, it was a simple yet spacious living space. It had a bedroom, a bathroom, a small but clean kitchen, and a balcony in the back. The apartment was the cheapest I could find. I moved in a week later with all of my stuff. I was just barely able to fit everything inside.
As soon as everything was packed. Nothing odd or suspicious occurred for the first few weeks. I woke up, made myself something to eat, go to work, come home and rinse and repeat. On the weekends, I would usually stay home and read a book or watch a movie by myself. I did nothing special for a hobby. I don’t really have any friends to hang out with.
However, on my third week of living here. I was on my way home from work. I was driving down a vacant street with barely any lights. When I drove past a black truck with no lights on, parked in a little ditch beside the road. I just barely noticed it as I drove past. I didn’t see any owners beside or near the truck. So, I kept driving past and believed it was just a rundown truck.
By the time I got back to the apartment. I got inside and locked the door behind me. It was a long day, and I was getting close to passing out. Although, I decided that it wouldn’t be a bad idea to sneak a book reading for a few minutes. I usually read my book outside on the patio in my chair. I liked the outside air as I read, it was refreshing after a long day of work.
When I got outside and started to read my book. Nothing was out of the ordinary. Until I noticed a small amount of movement near my car. I placed my book into my lap and took a glance toward my car. That’s when I saw the same black truck parked behind my car. Not only that, but I saw two men in white masks standing beside my car. They saw me, and waved at me.
As soon as I saw them, I freaked out. I took my book and went back inside. I instantly locked the door and peeped through a window, hoping to see either of the men. That’s when I could hear and just barely feel the footsteps coming up the staircase outside. I pulled my face away from the window and closed the blinds. I backed away from the window and stood in silence in the dark.
I looked over toward the front door as I listened to the two men approaching closer. I decided to grab my phone from my bedroom and dial 911. I told the operator that two men in masks appeared like they wanted to hurt me. As soon as the operator on the other end told me to stay calm while a cruiser was sent to my location. I hung up, and heard as the two men knocked on my front door. I kept the knife in my hand tightly and listened to them. Neither of them said a word, but they were continuing to knock on the door. Hoping that I would answer.
It felt like an hour, but I eventually heard the two men start to leave. I slowly approached the front door with my knife. I looked through the peephole and saw nobody on the other side. After a few minutes, I saw red and blue lights lit up the dark outside. When the police came to talk to me, they informed me that the men were caught. Two men in black hoodies and pants, with clown masks. The officer asked if I knew either of them, which were both young adults.
They didn’t give me any names, but I was able to look at their faces. I shook my head in response, unfamiliar with either of them. Before I knew it, after 30 minutes of the police taking care of the situation. I was left to continue my life like nothing happened. I didn’t know why they followed me and what they wanted from me. But shortly after the event, I went to sleep to get ready for work the next day. Also, because of what transpired. I don’t go down that same street the two men followed me down. Now, I travel down well lit streets when going anywhere at night time.
